Not long after, a conference was held on Chandrila between Grand Vizier Mas Amedda, during which the latter formally surrendered to the New Republic. The defeat of the Galactic Empire at the Battle of Jakku one year after the Battle of Endor, and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War in 5 ABY marked what would prove to be the beginnings of decreased hostilities between the shattered superpower that was the Empire and the New Republic. All that are left are mercenaries and warlords." ― Greef Karga
The Rebel Alliance began to reform into the New Republic.
The Empire suffered a critical defeat at the Battle of Endor at the hands of the Rebel Alliance with the deaths of the Emperor, his chief enforcer and apprentice Darth Vader, and the destruction of the Sith. Eventually, conflict between the Empire and various rebel cells, which had united into a single military alliance, led to an all out war. The Emperor also declared the Jedi to be enemies of the state, and launched a campaign that nearly led to the Order's extinction. Skirmishes were more frequent between the Resistance and the First Order, and eventually led to open war after the First Order destroyed the New Republic.Īt the end of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, who was in actuality the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, reorganized the democratic Republic into the first Galactic Empire and declared himself the Galactic Emperor. The Resistance was formed by former Senator Leia Organa to act as a check on the First Order due to the New Republic not believing the First Order to be a credible threat to galactic peace. The informal term "cold war" was used because there was no direct, large-scale fighting between the two sides, only occasional minor skirmishes. The Republic was clandestinely supported by the Resistance, a splinter cell of the New Republic Defense Force formed during the Cold War to operate independently of the New Republic Senate and Command in their monitoring of First Order activities. The Cold War ( 29 ABY– 34 ABY) was a five- year period of intense galactic geopolitical conflict between the New Republic and the First Order, a hermit state formed by neo-Imperial sympathizers that relocated to the galaxy's Unknown Regions during the era of the New Republic. Jimmy Kimmel didn't really have any Star Wars content, probably because he was too busy lying to strangers about the news, so instead, enjoy all the Star Wars puns in Sian Welby's weather report from 5 News in England." This cold war is feeling pretty blasted hot." ―Lieutenant Karé Kun, to Captain Temmin Wexley Seth Meyers had Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and the cast of Sisters on to talk about their film (also opening this weekend), and they used Star Wars action figures to convince people to watch their film.įey and Poehler also talked about being each other's work wives. Jimmy Fallon had a very Jimmy Fallon segment: "Star Wars Raps."Īlso, Fallon sent one of his producers out in Manhattan to talk to people about the new film (and see if they noticed him mispronouncing the title). Stephen Colbert was mostly concerned with avoiding spoilers before he saw the film, to the point that he flooded the Internet with as many fake spoilers as possible. First up is Conan O'Brien ( remember him?!), who dedicated the entire episode to the movie, starting with a cold open featuring all the characters from the original trilogy (Jango Fett, Bib Fortuna, Oola, etc) who are bitter about not being asked to return for the new movie.Ĭonan also talked to JJ Abrams and Harrison Ford, allowing producer Jordan Schlansky to ask a very pedantic question about Luke's lightsaber.
After years of anticipation and trailers, Star Wars: The Star Wars Merchandising Awakens is finally out in movie theatres, and almost every late night host celebrated in their own ways last night.
